Alwyn Williams enters Fred Whitton Challenge

March 18th 2019

ISC Tool maker – Alwyn Williams, is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support by entering this years Fred Whitton Challenge.

For those who don’t know about the FWC, the event was created in memory of the late Fred Whitton; a keen cyclist and great advocate for the sport. Fred was the Lakes Road Club Secretary and organizer of numerous cycling events. Fred sadly passed away in 1998, following a battle with cancer.

The first FWC was held in 1999 and cyclists gathered from across the UK, to challenge themselves over the 112 mile route across the Lake District, all whilst raising money for charitable causes.

Now in its 20th year, the FWC has grown to become one of the most popular charity rides in the UK, having raised over £1.5 million since its inception.  It’s also one of the most challenging routes, consisting of all the Lakeland Passes; that’s a lot of hills!

Our man Alwyn loves cycling and the FWC is an opportunity for him to test his strength, stamina and courage, all whilst raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Alwyn took up the sport of cycling around two years ago and wanted to set himself a challenge to work towards. The FWC is a popular choice for the more seasoned rider, not least because of the level of difficulty involved. Many don’t finish, but we have every faith Alwyn will make it round the course.

The Fred Whitton Challenge 2019, takes place on the 12th May and we wish Alwyn and all the participants a safe and successful ride.
