Response to RAPEX Rope Wrench Notification

We have been made aware of the notification on the RAPEX website [click here to read notification]

We would like to assure all of our customers that there is no safety issue related with the item supplied by ISC, namely RP280xx+RT270B1 (CE Marked Rope Wrench, with factory-fitted Single Tether) and RP280xx+RT270C1 (CE Marked Rope Wrench, with factory-fitted Double Tether).

There are a number of anomalies contained within the RAPEX document:

  •  The photograph included in the document does not represent the item supplied by ISC and is also an incomplete photograph of a system (that the rope wrench could be included into)
  •  ISC do have a valid EU certificate according to the PPE Regulation 2016/425 for the item supplied into the EU market. This determines that the product meets the Essential Health and Safety Requirements of the PPE Regulation

In the event of a catastrophic failure of the Rope Wrench, whilst included in a full climbing system (not currently supplied by ISC), the injury risk to the user is not increased. The hitch (not supplied by ISC) could become tight on the climbing rope and require the climber to be rescued, rather than being able to self-rescue.  This would likely be included in any risk assessment and rescue plan detailed in advance of any work taking place, as required by legislation.

We are in contact with our local Trading Standards Office and they are liaising with the RAPEX Unit. This is the only course of action that we can currently take to correct these inaccuracies.

ISC currently have a valid EU Type Examination Certificate and are appealing the claims made in the RAPEX document.

We will provide a further update as soon as more information becomes available.
Regards,
