| In April's issue we introduced you to a number of new karabiners either available for sale or almost ready for launch. One in particular is exciting for us as it pushes out the boundaries of quality and technology further than ever before, the Iron Wizard range. These karabiners are rated at 70kN and are perfectly suited to rigging either in the Arborist market or the rope rescue market. The Large Iron Wizard (detailed in April) is now available ex-stock in CE/ANSI and NFPA marked formats in our standard gold finish and is available to order in all-black for military use. Gate options include 2-way Twistlock and 3-way Supersafe. |

The Small Iron Wizard (KH219) is the second karabiner in the range. It also features a 70kN/15500lb MBS and a blind nose to reduce snagging, but this is a smaller karabiner (like an equal D) with a gate opening of approx 26mm/1in and a weight of 265g/9oz.
The KH219 is now available ex-stock in CE/ANSI and NFPA marked formats in our standard gold finish and is available to order in all-black for military use. Gate options include screwgate, 2-way twistlock and 3-way supersafe.
ISC took the opportunity to use the forthcoming revised ANSI Z359 standards, which feature major changes to the requirements for gate loading, to review our range and the materials and production methods used, and to make the small changes that are necessary to allow the entire ‘steel' range to be fully compliant in time for the proposed introduction of the new Standard in October. |

By slightly altering the material type, heat treatment process and gate design we have been able to produce pre-production prototypes that achieve the new requirements of 3600lb in all directions with minimal deflection. Intensive testing of more karabiners over the coming weeks will allow us to quickly and smoothly change over to the new design by the end of September. Our customers should barely see the difference, as we have made the modifications in such a way as to maintain the physical appearance as close to the current karabiners as possible. Of course the roll markings will also change to reflect the new requirements and this will become evident once full production has begun. European customers will not see this change unless they request ANSI style karabiners for increased strength compared to CE compliant versions.
