ISC is delighted to finally launch a new upgraded Big Dan (KH455) rigging karabiner ideal for use by Arborists or emergency rescue teams.
It replaces the current Big Dan (KH450) from January 2008 and offers a number of improved features.

|
The new Big Dan has a forged steel body which still provides a 50kN/11000lb MBS. It is fully CE compliant, NFPA ‘G' rated and will be available in an ANSI 07 format with 3600lb all-round gate strength. It weighs a maximum of 325g/11oz and features a minimum gate opening of 25mm/1”.
As always it is available in all gate types from screwgate to 4-way Quadlock. |

This new karabiner has been forged in the same shape as the best-selling Mongoose (aluminium) – a real favourite in the Arborist industry. The main reason for this is that it offers a root radius of ½” to allow for even the biggest rigging ropes to slide through it easily.
Feedback from the industry told us that this was a failing of the current Big Dan especially when compared to the Petzl Kador, but this new design alleviates that problem. It also offers the unique ISC ‘blind' nose so that it does not snag on rope or webbing. The profile of the body has been designed so that it will still fit through the holes of standard ISC rigging plates. |
We made the decision to forge the new karabiner because of strength and production process issues. The 50kN MBS is essential in a rigging karabiner and therefore could not be reduced. The forging process for this style of blind karabiner is simpler compared to current methods and this will result in better availability of a more competitively priced product to our customers.
